How to Join Us
Mafia Island lies approximately 25 km off the Tanzanian coast, opposite The Rufiji River Delta, 130 km from Dar es Salaam which takes approximately 35 minutes by air and 45 minutes from the Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar Island.
Mafia is reachable by light aircraft only by one of our partner airlines:
Safari Air Link, Coastal Aviation and Auric Air.

Airport Information
Your gateway International Airport is either Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar with regular flights from Europe and The Middle East.
Recommended are Swiss & Emirates, BA & KLM and other options include Qatar, Turkish, Kenya Airways & Ethiopian Airlines.
The entrance to the National Park and Utende where The Mafia Island Lodge and Mafia Island Diving is located is a 20 minute drive from Kilindoni, and the airport.
A short boat ride takes guests across the channel to Chole Island for Chole Mjini and Chole Lodge.
Baobab Reisen & Dive Mafia are happy to arrange your local flights, airport transfers and water taxi.
Mafia Island Lodge and Chole Mjini are closed most of April and May for the long rains. Both reopening in June.
One can enjoy the beauty of Mafia even just for a weekend but generally, our guests spend at least 5 to 8 days. If you would like to enjoy all the aquatic activities and excursions, we recommend you stay between 5 and 10 days. If you intend to do a scuba diving course for beginners or advanced, 5 dedicated days are required.
